If you are looking for plant based snacks which are easy, delicious and (mostly!) nutritious then you’ve come to the right spot. Whether you are transitioning into plant based living or a seasoned herbivore, I’m certain you’ll find plenty to love in our collection of plant based diet snacks.
Our diet consists of mainly plant based food and with two (rapidly growing!) young boys, snacking around here is serious business! The kids are ALWAYS on the go so regular snacking is important for their energy levels and our sanity. We tend to eat little and often too, so we’ve found preparing snacks we all enjoy helps ease the food prep load.
These plant based snack ideas are loved by everyone in our house and have been road tested and approved by kids (and adults!) of all ages. They are ideal for lunchboxes, picnics, workplace and weekend snacking.
Where possible try to buy and bake in bulk in order to save yourself time and money. You’ll also minimise waste and right now, we need to be doing everything we can do to help save the planet.
And so here it is – a round up of delicious sweet, savoury and wholesome plant based snacks sure to get the thumbs up from the whole family…
Delicious Plant Based Diet Snacks
Raw Plant Based Snacks
Eat the rainbow! Blend a mix of fruits to make great smoothies or smoothie bowls. Use the whole fruit and not just the juice so that you get all the goodness and fibre of the fruits flesh.
Slice up a range of vegetables and store in the fridge for easy snacking options. We use a selection depending on the season; cucumber, carrots, radishes, celery and peppers. Accompany veg sticks with your favourite plant based ‘dip’.
Savoury Plant Based Diet Snacks
Oven baked kale is a delicious alternative to crisps. Easy to batch make at home.
Snack Salad Potato
Roasted or sautéed salad potatoes are a really satisfying snack, even when cold. You can add your favourite spices and herbs before roasting for extra flavour.
The ultimate plant based diet snack! Great as a dip, as an accompaniment to salad or smothered on crackers. It’s really easy to make at home and you can create a range of different flavours.
Breadsticks / Warm Pita + Salsa / Guacamole
The best mix n match dip combo! Slice the pita into ‘strips’ to dunk in the salsa or guac. Kids love it.
Who says cereal is for breakfast?! Low sugar muesli or granola with nut or soya milk is one of my favourite filling snacks. We also top with with a teaspoon of chia seeds for extra goodness!
Snack plain or top with hummus, guac, salsa, tomatoes, cucumber or plant based cheeze.
You can buy individual snack seaweed sheets but they do involve a lot of single use plastic waste. We bulk buy Nori sheets and cut them into snack size portions as/when we need them.
Mix up your favourite vegetables, herbs and spices into warming soups. Use Oat Cream for added depth and creaminess to your flavours.
High Fibre Crackers
Crackers are great for snacking on – especially when dipped in hummus, salsa or guacamole. For optimal ‘goodness’ opt for wholewheat, high fibre options with added seeds and grains.
Sweet Plant Based Diet Snacks
These snacks are perfect for when you need that little something sweet…
Home-made plant based oat cookies are a great cupboard staple. Our favourite recipes are:
Delicious as an afternoon snack or brunch, banana bread always goes down a storm.
Home Made Popcorn
Make your own to save on oil, additives and unnecessary packaging. You can add your favourite flavours to make them sweet or savoury – we love a little maple and cinnamon on ours.
Nut Butter Stuffed Dates
One of the best sweet treats EVER. Our favourite combination is medjool date filled with almond butter.
Trust me. They’re in-cred-ible. Just pop a punnet in the freezer and enjoy sweet bursts of deliciousness! They keep pretty well in an insulated cool bag. Please don’t give these to small children due to the choking hazards of whole grapes.
A quality dark chocolate with a high cocoa (70–85% cocoa) content is actually quite nutritious. It’s packed with fibre and loaded with minerals such as iron, copper, magnesium. It does however also come with a generous helping of sugar and for that reason it’s best consumed in moderation.
We like to add chopped pieces to oat cookies or add some shavings to a sweet smoothie bowl.
